William entered foster care with his younger sister at age 4, they were both adopted three years later before being placed back into care and separated, at the age of 11. He then survived 12 different short-term placements until age 16 where he entered a long term placement until graduation from high school. Throughout his last years of placement, youth advocating became a passion. He was able to attend Camp To Belong Colorado and saw his sister for the first time in 7 years. He is an alumni of Maine YLat (Youth Leadership Advisor Team), and served a two year term for the 120th Maine State Legislature where he worked to pass laws that directly impacted foster youth. He is still able to visit and talk to his sister daily. He is an owner of a couple different business, and has served as Camp To Belong head counselor the past three seasons. A favorite quote, “Everyday I understand this, My stone might be small but my ripple is something I can’t fathom.”
CTBME Vice President
Tim Swift
I became involved with CTBME in 2006 as a yearly volunteer counselor and become the Board VP in 2017. Over the years I have been on multiple CTBME committees and continue to serve on them. I graduated many moons ago from St. Francis College (now UNE) with a degree in Sociology. I retired in 2020 after 35 years
of working for Maine DHHS as a social worker
involved in; foster care, child protective, residential licensing, managing the State adoption program, and providing training to
child welfare social workers. I have a 38 year old son who also was in foster care and two incredible grandsons. At the conclusion of my first year as a volunteer counselor I told everyone I was "hooked, I'm a lifer" and became
committed to CTBME. Each camp week is unique, as are the siblings and counselors which brings new blessings each year.

Melissa
Melissa started volunteering as a camp counselor with CTB in 2022. She has been working as a Care Coordinator in both Behavioral Health Homes and Opioid Health Homes programs. In this role she has seen the impact of having strong natural supports, like siblings. She has had direct and indirect experiences within the child welfare system and values the importance of reuniting foster siblings who have been separated. What drew Melissa to CTB was seeing a safe environment for foster kids to connect with their siblings and feel safe to be a kid.
